Wednesday Upate

Dear Families,

Due to the local fires and air quality, school is cancelled for Wednesday, October 24. Our thoughts and prayers are with the fire fighters and families who are affected by these fires. I continue to pray for them, and I encourage you to do so as well.

Please check the school website about school tomorrow. When school resumes, we will modify the schedule as necessary. At this point, we will not have a quiz on Charlotte’s Web on Friday. If you are able to work on school work, I would recommend working on the First Californians Project. The directions are listed below.

I pray that all of you are safe and I look forward to getting back to school!

Miss Gast

First Californians Tribe Project

The students will be working on a tribe project in class this week. Some elements of the project will be done at home (see assignment below). It will be due on Wednesday, October 31st. Students will present their projects the following Thursday and Friday.

The Assignment:
Choose a tribe:
Chumash
Maidu
Mojave
Miwok
Yurok

Written Report: (homework)
A 2-3 paragraph paper talking about the history, culture, region and daily life of your tribe will be written.

Chart: (in class)
See page 28 of your California History book for an example of the chart. Put your tribe name for the chart title.

Rules and Name of a Game: (in class)
Create or recreate a game played by your tribe. A written sheet of rules should be written so that they would know how to play the game without instruction.

Menu:
Create a menu of food that your tribe ate regularly and present it in a menu form. The menu should consist of the name of the food and a list of what is in it.

Village Model:
A diorama of a village where your tribe lived will be made. It should depict the region your tribe lived in, the typical shelter used, and some of the animals that were domesticated.
